One of our favorite events of the season is upon us!

On Saturday and Sunday, the annual Garden Jubilee returns to Main St. Hendersonville, NC.

Head downtown between the hours of 9am and 5pm May 28 and 29, to get a glimpse of the incredible farmers, local artisans and craftspeople, as well as guest speakers and to see our small agricultural town in action! Over 150 vendors will be selling plants, plant starts, garden supplies, garden themed art and more!

After two years of not being able to host the Garden Jubilee on Main St. and instead around local shops and farms in the area, we're relieved that it returns once again, another step in the right direction after the pandemic.

What do you know about cover crops?

Did you know that Stepp's Orchard, one of our members, was used to film a romantic comedy called "10 Steps to Love?"

The story follows a young woman named Sophie who always has a plan. Her plans get derailed when she meets an apple farmer named Mason and falls in love with him. She realizes that not everything requires a plan, and is swept off her feet by this charming young man who is trying to save his family's apple orchard.

Who would have thought that our humble Henderson county would star as a set for a movie? That's something fun to tell your friends!

It's the behind the scenes folks that make the magic happen for Henderson County Agriculture. The amount of time spent by dedicated volunteers to make sure everything goes as planned are limitless.

Third generation nurseryman, Ken Allison was honored at Farm City Day this past weekend at Jackson Park in Hendersonville. It was a beautiful day for the fun event which featured local farmers, livestock and agriculture partners that keep Hendersonville going. He won Farmer of the Year, and Karen Saine and Wendy Henderson won Volunteers of the Year for their volunteer efforts they've made over the years.

One of our members, Staton Farms was recently announced Apple Farmer of the Year at the Apple Festival on Friday!

We are proud to share their success, as they have been working on renovating their orchard for the past 30 years. Richard Staton is known as the "unofficial mayor" of Dana, as he is very involved with his church and other community projects.

We want to congratulate them on this prestigous award!

The heat outside may tell you otherwise, but fall is just around the corner!

Now is the perfect time to be thinking about ways to use and take advantage of that last minute in-season local produce such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, berries, watermelons, cantaloupe and okra.

We took a trip today down to one of our member’s farms, Johnson Family Farm. A family-oriented business, three sisters are walking in their father’s footsteps to keep American farms alive.

Their father, Kirby Johnson, is a seventh-generation farmer, and they offer local produce, eggs, meats and more at their Hendersonville, NC farm.

Handpicked with love and ensuring only the highest quality of goods available, they come from humble beginnings and are a key player in our local economy.

North River Farms owner, Jason Davis, has recently made conservation efforts a priority on his farm. An initiative that he is working on is preserving the Hellbender Salamander, an aquatic amphibian that makes it home in free flowing, well oxygenated and rocky mountain streams.

This amphibian has been in existence for millennia, and is one of the oldest know salamander species to exist.

One of our members, Jimmy Cowan recently suffered an accident while driving his tractor to feed his cows. Summertime is a busy time for farm equipment to be on the road, as well as more locals, and of course, tourists. Everyone has somewhere to be, but that doesn't mean you should speed.

We invite you to check out the story of Jimmy's recent accident and we urge caution when you're driving, especially if you encounter farm equipment that will be going much slower than you.

Speeding has real consequences and people get hurt and killed everyday due to it. Be mindful when you're driving and be respectful of others, especially those driving tractors and riding motorcycles.

You can watch the video of his story on RFD TV here
